What we look for

A Wi-Fi problem almost never has a single cause

The audit cross-checks radio, clients, configuration and business context to avoid hasty conclusions.

Coverage & SNR

RSSI, SNR, primary and secondary coverage, weak areas and consistency of the radio cells.

Roaming & mobility

RF continuity, cell levels, client capabilities and 802.11k/v/r mechanisms when used.

Interference & spectrum

RF utilisation, non-Wi-Fi sources, noise, co-channel contention and anomalies visible in the spectrum.

DFS & channel plan

DFS events, channel plan consistency, channel widths, frequency reuse and impact on 5 GHz service.

Capacity & density

Number of clients, available airtime, critical applications and fit between design and real load.

Infrastructure configuration

Transmit powers, RRM/DCA or the vendor's equivalent, 2.4 / 5 / 6 GHz bands, SSIDs, mobility settings and controller data.

Methodology

Measure, correlate, explain, fix

A useful audit links what happens over the air to what the infrastructure actually does.

1

Scoping

Symptoms, affected areas, devices, applications, architecture and incident history.

2

Field measurements

Wi-Fi survey, RF spectrum and targeted tests with Ekahau AI Pro and Ekahau Sidekick 2 on the 2.4 / 5 / 6 GHz bands as required.

3

Correlation

Measurements analysed against radio settings, events, logs and the controller data available.

In the field

Measurements taken where the network works

Production areas, technical corridors, metal structures: the audit is carried out on site, under real operating conditions, with Ekahau AI Pro and Ekahau Sidekick 2.

Outdoor Wi-Fi

The job doesn't stop at the building walls

Streets, façades, vegetation, equipment at height: radio readings and observation of the installations combine to prepare recommendations suited to the site.

Expert RF reading

The client decides when to roam. The network must give it good reasons to.

A sound diagnosis avoids shortcuts: raising power, adding an access point or enabling a roaming protocol does not automatically solve the problem.

Roaming

We analyse coverage continuity, cell size, power differences, client capabilities and roaming assistance mechanisms. The final behaviour still depends on the client's own algorithm.

Understanding roaming drops →

DFS & interference

Spectrum observations are correlated with infrastructure events whenever possible. The aim is to tell a real radar event apart from an interference source, a channel change or another RF symptom.

VoWiFi and mobile communications audit

Coverage that looks adequate does not guarantee stable calls. The analysis takes into account RF continuity, SNR, secondary coverage, cell size, roaming, contention and device capabilities. Measurements are correlated with symptoms to tell a radio, client or infrastructure problem apart.

Preparing the visit

The right data speeds up the diagnosis

Nothing is required for the first conversation. When these items exist, they help target the useful measurements more quickly.

  • Scaled floor plans and access point locations
  • Models of the affected devices and applications
  • Areas, times and frequency of the symptoms
  • Radio configuration, controller exports and available events
  • Recent changes to the infrastructure or the building

FAQ

Wi-Fi audit: what to know before the visit

What is a professional Wi-Fi audit?
A professional Wi-Fi audit measures and analyses how an existing network actually behaves, in order to identify the causes of insufficient coverage, low SNR, interference, unstable roaming, insufficient capacity or poor radio settings. Depending on the context, the analysis combines an on-site survey, RF spectrum analysis, infrastructure configuration, controller logs and targeted tests.
What is the difference between a Wi-Fi audit and a coverage study?
A coverage study is mainly used to design or size a network before deployment. A Wi-Fi audit is carried out on an existing network to check its real behaviour, understand incidents and define corrective actions. The two approaches can complement each other on the same project.
Which tools do you use to audit a Wi-Fi network?
TWN Consulting uses Ekahau AI Pro and Ekahau Sidekick 2 for surveys and RF analysis across the 2.4, 5 and 6 GHz bands as required, together with data from Wi-Fi controllers and platforms where relevant. Depending on the incident, the analysis can be completed with packet captures, DFS logs, performance measurements or monitoring tools.
Can you diagnose roaming problems?
Yes. Roaming is analysed by looking at signal level, SNR, secondary coverage, transmit powers, cell design, client capabilities and the 802.11k/v/r mechanisms when they are used. The client device remains in charge of the roaming decision: the goal is to give it a consistent RF environment and configuration.
Do you analyse DFS events and interference?
Yes. The audit can include RF spectrum analysis, channel utilisation, DFS events, non-Wi-Fi interference sources and the consistency of the frequency plan. Where necessary, field observations are correlated with infrastructure logs.
Do you work outside France?
Yes. TWN Consulting travels across France and to neighbouring countries for on-site audits. Configuration reviews, log analysis and some diagnostics can also be prepared or completed remotely.
